Lenovo ThinkStation P3 Ultra SFF Gen 2 Power Supply

While we are looking over the P3 Ultra SFF Gen 2, here is a quick look at Lenovo’s included power supply for the mini-PC.

To power the desktop CPU-based system as well as multiple PCIe cards, Lenovo pairs the high-end configurations with their most powerful 330W power brick, which is capable of driving up to 16.5 amps of current at 20 volts. With as much power as a low-end desktop, this is no small brick, though unlike the P3 Tiny, the P3 Ultra SFF is at least bigger than the power supply this time around.

Final Words

Over the years Lenovo has developed what can only be described as a rather extensive lineup of workstations, and in the process has become one of the most prolific mini-PC vendors out of the major OEMs. Consequently, with both Tiny 1L (TinyMiniMicro) sized systems as well as the bigger Ultra SFF systems available under the P3 umbrella, Lenovo is able to give potential customers a good deal of options for mini-PCs, spanning the gamut both in size and performance.

Compared to the P3 Tiny Gen 2 we looked at a couple of months back, the P3 Ultra SFF Gen 2 is designed to be bigger and better, and it certainly lives up to that standard. While both systems are based on desktop hardware, the larger P3 Ultra SFF makes exactly the kind of trade-offs you would expect in a larger mini-PC, putting the extra volume to good use for not only better cooling, but also for room for multiple PCIe cards. The end product is a system that pretty much begs for at least a dual-slot video card to be installed to make the most of its abilities – but then that is half the point: to have enough space to install such a card.

Ultimately, this makes for a convenient continuum of products within the P3 lineup. For the smallest systems, there is the P3 Tiny Gen 2, while the P3 Ultra SFF Gen 2 slots in nicely as a more spacious option for users who are still after a mini-PC, but need a bit more expandability and GPU performance than what an even smaller system could provide.
