Dell Precision 7540 Mobile Workstation System Benchmarks

We have a number of system-level benchmarks that we run through. We wanted to give some sense of where the Dell Precision 7540 falls.

Passmark

Passmark is a common workstation benchmark suite. Here we are simply going to present the result:

SPECworkstation 3

SPECworkstation3 measures the 3D graphics performance of systems running under the OpenGL and Direct X application programming interfaces. Storage and processing power are also taken into effect to benchmark the entire system.

In several key areas, we find the Dell Precision 7540 Mobile Workstation competes very well. The SPECworkstation benchmark takes a great deal of time to run, thermals can have a big effect here, generally, the hardware combination is well balanced which helps generate excellent scores. These are strong scores for SPECworkstation, the cooling system on the Dell Precision 7540 Mobile Workstation helps to keep the CPU and GPU from throttling down due to excessive heat.

SPECviewperf 13

SPECviewperf 13 measures the 3D graphics performance of systems running under the OpenGL and Direct X application programming interfaces.

Here the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 3000 does fall behind here, we expect a newer version of SPECviewpef that can take better advantage of the latest NVIDIA RTX designs to show better results. NVIDIA made a major revision to their architecture with the RTX line. As such, sometimes we get good performance, but not great performance with older software. Over time, you usually want to be on newer hardware as it continues to get optimizations.

Next, we wanted to get a sense of the rendering performance of the Dell Precision 7540 Mobile Workstation.

  1. Nice! I like to hear about these newer gen mobile Precision workstations.

My 7710 with m5000m and Intel E3-1535M v5 (purchased Feb 2016) is still going strong however. Replaced the palm rest and keyboard under warranty and looks brand new again (a key cap broke off as I was swapping memory and the touchpad surface coating pealed – the touchpad coating on replacment parts is much better).
