Recently STH visited QCT headquarters in San Jose, California to check out some new networking products the company would be bringing over the next few months. We also got some hands-on time with the QCT T3024-P05 we saw at Computex 2016. During the visit we learned that QCT was updating their Quanta OS software features with such items as auto-installation.

We recently reviewed the QCT QuantaMesh T3048-LY8 and T3048-LY9 switches that we use daily in the STH data center lab. Between when we first installed the switches almost a year ago in September 2015 and now (September 2016) significant development has occurred on the Quanta OS platform.

Here is the new list of Quanta OS key features:

As one can see features such as BGP4 and Auto-Installation were added to the new list. We have not had a chance to upgrade the software on our switches and test out the new feature set however we do plan to upgrade them in the coming weeks.

We did ask about web management and apparently that is a different upstream code base from Broadcom that is not used for the QCT data center focused switches that we use. That makes sense given the target market for the switches.

Do expect more QCT content on STH over the coming months. We have been working with QCT on a review potentially as soon as the start of Q4 2016. QCT sells highly competitive switches from a price and performance perspective so we are excited to see some of the new gear the company will be shipping later this year.
