TP-Link TL-SG105S-M2 Management

This is an unmanaged switch, so we do not get a management interface.

TP-Link TL-SG105S-M2 Performance

These units were purchased and tested just as we were getting our new test suite online, but we were using the older iperf3 test suite that aligns with dozens of cheap fanless switch reviews we have done previously.

Overall, the performance is OK for this class of switch, and is in-line with others that we have tested.

TP-Link TL-SG105S-M2 Power Consumption

This is a very low-power switch. You can tell by the 9V 0.6A power adapter that comes with it.

We got 1.0W at idle, and 1.3W with a single 2.5GbE port plugged in.

This is one of the lower-power switches we have seen in this design.

Final Words

I think a few things came to mind during testing of this switch. First, the TP-Link TL-SG105S-M2 is probably one of the better 2.5GbE options, so long as you are OK with TP-Link as the vendor rather than a relatively small Chinese vendor. As an unmanaged switch, there is not a lot going on.

Still, our recommendation would come down to pricing. Is a locking point, 1W lower power consumption, and perhaps a metal case worth $10? To many, that is a good value. Is it worth paying double? That is one we are not sure about. Still, we thought this would be a good switch to just test, given that it is listed as a #1 seller.
