Testing The Toshiba BG4 M.2 2230 NVMe SSD
Here is our test configuration:
- Motherboard: ASUS WS C621E SAGE Motherboard
- CPU: 2x Intel Xeon Gold 6134 (8 core / 16 Threads)
- GPU: NVIDIA RTX 2080 SUPER
- Cooling: Noctua NH-U14S DX-3647 LGA3647
- RAM: 12x MICRON 16GB Low Profile
- SSD: Samsung PM961 1TB
- OS: Windows 10 Pro
CrystalDiskInfo shows us the basic information about our Toshiba BG4.
Next, we started running benchmarks and began with CrystalDiskMark, for a quick check on the disks.
Overall we see really good results on the Toshiba BG4 and reach rated speeds easily.
ATTO Disk Benchmark
With ATTO we see the Toshiba BG4 drive pulling 2.35 GB/s Reads and 1.85 GB/s Writes which are slightly better than rated speeds. Our sample Toshiba BG4 is in FOB (Fresh out of box) condition so we do expect these results to drop a bit over time.
Parkdale is a fast benchmark which reports Sequential Read and Write performance numbers.
Parkdale shows the BG4 to be considerably faster than the Intel Optane 800P.
HD Tune Pro
HD Tune Pro can run several benchmarks on your drives; we unlocked the Pro version to give access to all benchmarks.
As we have seen, the Toshiba BG4 shows a flat response line with Bursts up to 755 MB/s and access times of 0.026 ms with reads.
Again we see the Writes on the BG4 with a significant speed advantage over the Intel Optane 800P.
Writes on the BG4 are a bit slower reaching 765 MB/s, bursting to 587.6 MB/s and an access time of 0.232 ms.
With HD Tune Pro Sequential Read tests we see even better performance on the Toshiba BG4.
With HD Tune Pro Sequential Write tests we have almost a 2x difference in speed between the two drives.
AIDA64 Disk Test
AIDA64 Read Test Suite Benchmark runs fairly quickly, it also confirms close results to the BG4 when compared to previous tests.
Anvil’s Storage Utilities
Anvil’s Storage Utilities is a comprehensive benchmark which gives us a very in-depth look at the performance of drives being tested.
AS SSD Benchmark
AS SSD Benchmark is another good benchmark for testing SSD’s, we run all three tests for our series.
AS SSD Benchmark also displays IOPs after the first test is complete.
The last test is the Copy test.
