Lenovo P620 Threadripper Pro Workstation Software
We are happy to find that Lenovo only bundles its workstations with VANTAGE. VANTAGE allows the user to update software, check system health and keep an eye on Warranty details.
First, let’s look at our system specifications and continue with testing.
Test Configuration: Lenovo ThinkStation P620
Here is the configuration we are using for the system:
- System: Lenovo ThinkStation P620
- CPU: AMD Ryzen Threadripper Pro 3995WX
- RAM: 8x 32GB DDR4-3200 (256GB Total) RDIMMs (2x 16GB as configured by Lenovo)
- GPU: NVIDIA Quadro RTX 6000
- NIC: Onboard 10GbE + NVIDIA ConnectX-6 200GbE PCIe Gen4 single-port add-in
- Storage: Western Digital SN720
- OS SSD: Intel DC P3710 400GB
As a quick note here, Lenovo configured the system with two 16GB DIMMs. This has two effects. First, it did not fully populate the 8-channel memory. Second, we only had 32GB for 64 cores and 128 threads. This is a valid configuration from Lenovo. To our readers, we urge you to fully populate all 8-channels for more performance and memory capacity.
Testing the Lenovo P620 Threadripper Pro Workstation
The CPU we will be using is AMD Tyzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX 2.7GHz, Max Boost to 4.2 GHz, (64C/128 Threads).
Let us continue with performance testing.
Lenovo P620 Threadripper Pro Workstation Cinebench R15
Here are our Cinebench R15 results:
We ran Cinebench R15 several times. Cinebench does better with CPUs that have a larger number of cores. We will see that the AMD Tyzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX crushes the dual-CPU platform with Intel Xeon Platinum 8260’s in performance in the remaining benchmarks.
Lenovo P620 Threadripper Pro Workstation Cinebench R20
We have not run Cinebench R20 in our reviews but will start doing so in future reviews.
The AMD Tyzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX with 64 cores/128 Threads dominates the Cinebench benchmarks. In single thread results, it still leads but by a smaller margin.
Lenovo P620 Threadripper Pro Workstation Geekbench 4
Geekbench is a benchmark that the AMD Tyzen Threadripper PRO 3995WX generates very good results. Not the crushing lead that we saw in Cinebench, but 4,000+ in Multi-Threaded and 1,000+ in Single-Thread is pretty good here.
Next, we are going to look at system performance benchmarks.
