KYY X90D “Triple” Portable Monitor Review

KYY X90D Monitor Performance

For our monitor testing, we use a Datacolor SpyderPro (Amazon Affiliate) to measure the monitors’ color performance. This is not the fanciest test equipment by any means, but we just wanted to get some general sense of performance. Here is the color gamut on the monitor:

Only 80% of sRGB is noticeable when you are working on these monitors. Below, we have the measured color accuracy from our Datacolor SpyderPro.

The findings for the tone response were adequate.

This tested at an average color accuracy of 2.18, which is very respectable out of the box for an uncalibrated monitor.

Brightness and Contrast

One small change here is that we are only adjusting brightness and contrast on one panel. Still, here are the results:

These brightness results are decent. It is certainly not the brightest or most dull monitor we have tested. The white point and contrast remain relatively consistent from 50% brightness to 100%, which differentiates this from some of the other portable monitors we have tested.

Key Lessons Learned

The size of this portable monitor makes it quite a challenge to set up because of the space it takes up. Compared to the KYY X90G “Quad” portable monitor, you take up the same amount of width, even though the KYY X90G has an additional monitor. Still, traveling and having two monitors are a great boost to productivity.

We tried it with the Dell Pro 5 14260, and that notebook fit between the two monitors with a small gap. A slightly larger notebook could close the gaps down.

One big advantage over the KYY X90G “Quad” was that we were able to get both monitors up and running with the included USB Type-C cable, without an additional power adapter. This makes it just as easy to set up and run as if you had a single portable monitor while also giving you a second display. Also, KYY calls this a “triple” monitor, but it is really a double monitor solution. I am not a fan of calling it a triple when only two monitors are included.

Final Words

If you travel frequently and need some extra screen space, then this is a neat option. Having two additional monitors greatly improves productivity. The KYY unit is solidly made from metal and feels more premium than a cheap plastic monitor.

This KYY X90D bridges a gap between one of the main issues we saw with the most comparable KYY X90G “Quad” monitor. The KYY X90D can power on and run with only one USB Type-C Cable and no power adapter, making for easy access and a less cluttered working area. The $250 price (unless there is a sale) makes a lot of sense if you need two screens and do not want to bring separate screens and set up your own setup. However, because of the size, you do have to give the monitors more thought when packing compared to just bringing one portable monitor.
