Featuring a 4 core/ 8 thread 15W TDP Intel Core i7-8665U (1.9 GHz) provides a lot of performance and Intel will seek to integrate higher core count processors in this power envelope with its Ice Lake generation of CPUs.

We thought that the AMD Radeon Pro WX3200 is an interesting choice. We generally see the AMD Radeon mobile GPUs in Apple products while many PCs tend to focus on NVIDIA’s offerings.

WiFi 6 is going to be a big deal in the industry. It helps in areas with congested WiFi use. If you are on 802.11ac and are waiting for the next generation of WiFi, this is it.

OEMs like HP usually spec a drive size and type, but not the vendor. This gives them more supply chain flexibility. In our test unit, the Samsung MZVLB512HAJQ-000H1 was the NVMe M.2 512GB TLC SSD included.

The Intel Core i7-8665U runs with a base speed of 1.9 GHz and can Turbo up to 4.8 GHz. With 4 cores / 8 Threads. The lower core count limits some benchmarks when compared to other mobile workstations and laptops that we have reviewed that have 6 core processors.

GPU-Z shows the primary stats of our AMD Radeon Pro WX3200. The AMD Radeon Pro WX3200 GPU clocks in at 1082 MHz. And DDR4 Memory at 1000 MHz. Pixel Fillrates run at 17.3 GPixels/s, and Texture Fillrate comes in at 17.3 GTexel/s. The AMD Radeon Pro WX3200 is a slight upgrade over the UHD 620 Graphics we have seen in several of our last reviews. There are no other GPU options available when ordering for users that might require higher-end graphics.

HP Comprehensive Layered Protection

HP ZBook 14u G6 features what HP calls it’s Comprehensive Layered Protection built into the mobile workstation.

HP Sure Sense uses deep learning and neural networks to identify behavioral traits; instinctively recognizing and neutralizing never before seen malware. HP Sure Start Gen 5
protects from Firmware attacks with the world’s first and only self-healing BIOS. HP Sure Start Gen 5 automatically recovers the BIOS from attacks or corruption.

We find these are welcome features HP has added to its line of mobile workstations and other products, we all know that even simple things like visiting a website can infect your system, and ad’s can also download virus. Sure Start Gen 5 is an advanced feature we have not seen in other products to protect your BIOS, these types of attacks would be extremely hard to fix for average users. In the Lab we run Kaspersky and Malwarebytes to protect our machines, but things can still pass through if not careful, it is nice to see HP take a lead in this area to give even more protection.

Let us move on and start our testing.
