We had these in the studio and figured we would do a quick look at the G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Neo DDR5-6000 32GB 2x 16GB kit. You may have seen these used recently in the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition Review. Also, before we get started, we know. Memory prices have gone wild. This time last year (aka “The Before Times”), we were only buying 64GB DIMMs. Now, we are using 32GB in 16-core test systems.

If you want to pick this kit up, here is an Amazon affiliate link. Note that there are both white and black heatspreader options. If you prefer the CL30 kit to save a few dollars, here is an Amazon affiliate link to that one.

The G.Skill Trident Z5 RGB Neo series is purpose-built for AMD’s AM5 platform, featuring AMD EXPO profiles that enable one-click overclocking on compatible motherboards. This specific kit we have in the lab is the DDR5-6000 variant with tight CL28 timings, which represents one of the sweet spots for Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series processors. The “Neo” designation indicates AMD EXPO optimization, as opposed to the Intel XMP-focused Trident Z5 RGB kits.

The packaging follows G.Skill’s established design language with a clear window showing the modules inside. The box prominently displays the key specifications: DDR5-6000, CL28-38-38-96, and 1.40V operating voltage for the EXPO profile. These are aggressive timings that should deliver strong performance in memory-sensitive workloads.

The rear of the packaging provides additional technical details and compatibility information. G.Skill lists support for major AM5 motherboard vendors, including ASUS, ASRock, Gigabyte, and MSI.

Removing the modules from the packaging gives us our first look at the actual DIMMs. The Trident Z5 RGB Neo features a distinctive angular heatspreader design with a brushed aluminum finish. Our sample has the black heatspreader variant, though white is equally available. The RGB lighting bar runs along the top edge and is compatible with major motherboard RGB ecosystems, including ASUS Aura Sync, MSI Mystic Light, Gigabyte RGB Fusion, and ASRock Polychrome Sync.

The module label provides the complete specification breakdown. The model number F5-6000J2838A16GX2-TZ5NR tells us everything we need to know: DDR5-6000 speed grade, CL28 primary timing, 16GB per module, and the Trident Z5 Neo RGB product line. The 1.40V voltage requirement is higher than the JEDEC standard but typical for performance-tuned DDR5 kits. Users should ensure their AM5 motherboard BIOS is up to date for optimal compatibility with these EXPO profiles.

Here we see both modules from the kit side by side. The matched pair ensures consistent performance and stability when running in dual-channel mode. G.Skill tests these kits together to guarantee they work as a set, which is particularly important for AMD’s memory topology on AM5.

The heatspreader height of approximately 44mm should fit under most CPU coolers, though users with large air coolers should verify clearance before purchasing.

Next, let us get these running.
