Tyan’s New Sandy Bridge-EP Xeon E5-2600 Series C600 Motherboards

Today I am taking a quick peek at the new range of Intel C600 chipset based server motherboards from Tyan for the new Intel Xeon E5-2600 series CPUs. Having been a fan of Tyan motherboards for some years except the last couple of years where Supermicro have come into their own in the server market. Did Tyan deliver a full range of motherboards for Intel’s most important server CPU launch in recent history? Let’s take a look at what they are bringing to market.

10GbE ports a huge plus for dataserving other computers/storage but on the other hand Tyan is only supporting a total of four DIMM slots per CPU. This also appears to be a potential workstation board with the audio option on the S7055AGM3NR making is a competitor to the ASUS Z9PE-D8 WS.

This board is optimized for 1U and 2U chassis with expansion ports via PCIe riser board(s). This is very similar to the AMD G34 based Tyan S8236WGM3NR that Patrick reviewed last year.

Tyan  S7066 (S7066GM3NR / S7066WGM3NR)

Note, there is very little information of the S7066 online. It is not even listed on Tyan’s Xeon E5 2600 series page. We did find some quick specs on the board(s) and are including them here.

This board seems very similar in layout to the S7056 but with a an onboard LSI SAS controller option, (and no option for 10GbE in sight)

Overall, these look like some interesting boards from Tyan. I am sure Patrick will have some reviews on the board(s) shortly.
