How crazy is this? The main STH YouTube channel now has 1 MILLION subscribers, around three years after we hit 100,000. Since then, a lot has changed, and we certainly have had some ups and downs, but it has been a lot of fun.
STH YouTube 1 MILLION Subscriber Edition
To be honest, when we started the STH YouTube, we thought 50,000 was probably a maximum, maybe 100,000 or over a long period of 5 years, maybe 250,000 subscribers. I am not sure that in 2022, when we hit 100,000, I thought ever hitting 1 million was attainable for STH given how much server content we do. Growth was initially slow, then accelerated, and has since slowed again in 2025. Yet, here we are.
A few quick thank yous are in order. First, I always thank Linus Sebastian. I can say with 100% certainty that without him walking me through Taipei in the summer of 2019, that led to the Jellyfish Fryer project, STH would not have a YouTube. Also, thanks to the team at STH for making content, and all of you for watching and sharing it with friends and colleagues. Thank you to all of our sponsors who have supported us. Last but not least, thank you to my family for supporting me in doing this.

2024 was a big shock that really caught up to STH in 2025 with the baby who is now running around and has become feral. Watching the little one while I tell my wife “hey I am going to go to Eastern Europe to tour something” while sending back photos like this one is important support.

That, by the way, is going to be a must-watch for STHers later this month. We will have an article as well, but the video was a labor of love supported solely by our YouTube channel memberships.

I would normally go into this a bit more in our Letter from the Editor, but this feels like a good time to. Something the team and I have been working on is getting into a cadence of doing both in studio content, build content, inexpensive homelab content, and then tours. That may seem easy, but trying to get a pipeline for each and then actually doing them when I have averaged two flights a week this year, is easier said than done. I have a couple of big projects that I wanted to do, but I am still trying to figure out how to do them. They will happen though.
Final Words
What a wild ride it has been. All the way down to I screen recorded the 999,999 to 1,000,000 transition, then managed to delete it on the Mac. Doh! Thank you to all of the STH YouTube subscribers that we have, and all of those who have supported the STH main site. This takes a lot of people to make happen.
