KLEVV CRAS C720 1TB Performance Testing

We test using both the default smaller test size as well as larger test sets on our benchmarks. This allows us to see the difference between lighter and heavier workloads.

CrystalDiskMark x64

CrystalDiskMark is used as a basic starting point for benchmarks as it is something commonly run by end-users as a sanity check.

In CrystalDiskMark the KLEVV CRAS C720 arrives where I hoped it would; in the grouping with other top-tier PCIe 3.0 drives. It mostly meets its rated sequential transfer rates and is in good company with the SK hynix Gold P31 and Inland Premium drives.

There is only a tiny performance drop observed when using the larger CrystalDiskMark test, which is nothing to worry about. Performance remains on par with other good PCIe 3.0 drives.

ATTO Disk Benchmark

The ATTO Disk Benchmark has been a staple of drive sequential performance testing for years. ATTO was tested at both 256MB and 8GB file sizes.

ATTO test results show the KLEVV CRAS C720 in a dead heat with the Inland drive, which is good company.

Performance does not budge on the larger ATTO test. Unlike the CRAS C920 which had some severe performance consistency problems, the C720 holds strong.

Anvil’s Storage Utilities

Anvil’s Storage Utilities is a comprehensive benchmark that gives us a very in-depth look at the performance of drives tested. This benchmark was run with both a 1GB and 8GB test size.

Finally some differentiation between the Inland drive and the CRAS C720. Inland manages to take the lead on read speed by a smidge, but the KLEVV turns in the winning write score.

The larger Anvil test has a relatively minor hit on the KLEVV CRAS C720, allowing it to pull ahead of the rest of our PCIe 3.0 pack in write score. Read score remains competitive though not chart-topping with other PCIe 3.0 drives.

AS SSD Benchmark

AS SSD Benchmark is another good benchmark for testing SSDs. We run all three tests for our series. Like other utilities, it was run with both the default 1GB as well as a larger 10GB test set.

AS SSD gives the KLEVV CRAS C720 its first outright read score victory among PCIe 3.0 drives, and it is tied for the top in write score as well.

Finally, something makes the KLEVV CRAS C720 blink; the larger AS SSD test knocks the C720 down several pegs.  The write score remains very strong, but the read score takes a significant hit versus the smaller test. Results are still fine, they just are no longer chart-topping.

SPECworkstation, thermals, and our conclusion are up next.
