The Crucial X10 is a 2TB external SSD that is designed to be a lower-cost and compact option compared to the X10 Pro that we reviewed. This is a USB 3.2 SSD. At first, we thought that this SSD was going to be a lower-end offering. What we realized is that it is actually quite fast.

At around a $165 street price, the Crucial X10 2TB is only about $40 more than the lower-end Crucial X6 2TB. It is also about $10 less than the X10 Pro 2TB. This is certainly a segment where you are spending more per TB to get more performance, but not quite at X10 Pro levels.

Crucial X10 2TB SSD Hardware Overview

The drive itself is very small and in the same form factor as we have seen from drives like the X10 Pro, and even the X9 drives. It may seem like a small detail, but the size difference between these drives and the Samsung T9 drives becomes noticable when you have very tight bag or pocket space.

On the bottom, we get the label. Something small, but nice, is that this says Crucial X10 and 2TB in fairly large print. Some other SSDs make it hard to see the capacity except for very fine print.

Connectivity is USB 3.2 Gen2 in a Type-C port.

  1. We’ve unfortunately come to the point where USB 3.2 doesn’t really mean anything. (Thanks, USB IF!) That this unit is Gen2x2 20 Gbps is all I needed to know, and since Apple for some reason does not support this I’ll pass this one and stick to my 10 Gbps SSDs while contemplating getting the Bee-link Mate Mini TB5 80 Gbps enclosure.
