Ubiquiti UXG-Flex Management
This is a bit different than something like the Ubiquiti UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber UCG-Fiber we reviewed, since it is a gateway that does not run its own UniFi controller.

There are various options to host the UniFi controller, such as cloud or self-hosting the controller. We decided to just use the Ubiquiti CloudKey Gen2 Plus UCK-G2-SSD, and once we connected the UXG-Lite to the CloudKey we were ready to adopt it.

Once it was adopted, then we could update the gateway.

Once we were all updated, we had the settings here.

We could setup a VPN.

We had access to the port manager. Since there are only two ports, realistically, there is only so much you can do. Still, having this feature and something that is familiar with other UniFi devices with several ports is always great to see.

You can configure the WAN connection here.

You can also configure the LAN settings. Something that was a bit fun here was that in our test configuration for network testing, we ideally have a second LAN port so that we can use one for management and leave the LAN port directly connecting to our load generation port.

There are other features that will look familiar to UniFi users, like the policy engine.

Here is a quick look at the CyberSecure page.

You can also turn the IDS function on here.

Just as a quick aside, it is not completely accurate to call this a competitor to something like theĀ GL.iNet GL-MT6000 Flint 2 WiFi Router since that is designed as a standalone device, and the UXG-Lite requires a UniFi controller to run somewhere else on the network, whether that is in the cloud, using a CloudKey, or just as a virtual machine locally.
With that, let us get to the power consumption and noise.

The cloud gateway ultra costs the same while having more ports as well as hosting a controller. Am I missing something
Picked up on of these for $55 AUD ($37usd) new from a store and paired it with a 2nd hand cloudkey gen 2+ to give a family member access to the unifi system with protect and it’s been great.
