MokerLink 2G041G Review A Cheap 5x 2.5GbE Switch

MokerLink 2G041G Performance

In terms of the overall 2.5GbE performance, we were able to get fairly normal 2.5GbE speeds from each of the five ports.

Performance was good, in the range of the other switches we reviewed looking at the average transfer rates when loaded. So far, we have been within 3% or so on all of the switches in this class so it does not feel like performance should be the key buying criterion in this price range.

MokerLink 2G041G and Management Capabilities

Since we are going to be doing this as part of a series, we will note that this is an unmanaged switch. Also, we did not find PoE capabilities when testing this switch.

MokerLink 2G041G Power Consumption

Here is a quick shot of the 12V 1.5A power adapter. This is not a huge adapter by any means.

At idle, we saw 5.0W which is higher than the 3.8W-4.4W we would expect from a switch like this. Even 4.4W is at the higher end in this class so it was certainly using more power at the wall.

Plugging in a port at 2.5GbE speeds we saw an incremental 0.4W of power consumption. That is in a more normal range.

While the Zyxel MG-105, for example, had lower idle power consumption, it had much higher per-incremental active port power consumption.

Final Words

For around $106, this is one of the cheapest switches we have in our round-up. As you will see as we continue with this series, many of the MokerLink and Hasivo units are very similar, just with the MokerLink units being available on Amazon while Hasivo is found mostly on AliExpress.

This switch was in the “OK” camp, although our first choice in this category is the QNAP QSW-1105-5T 5-Port 2.5GbE Switch was only $4 more and had the power input on the front with the switch ports. It may depend on simply how one likes their ports arranged though.

We will also have another MokerLink switch review (soon) that is slightly more expensive but is lower power and higher performance.

  1. Have you considered testing tolerance of cable length or quality? Perhaps they are all the same but a difference could be a substantial driver in making a buy choice.

    Thanks for the great reviews.

  2. psssst…. trendnet 2.5 5 port is only $98 today on Amazon. Do you think they are both comparable? $7 isn’t much difference. btw. loved the writeup on this.
