Intel Xeon E3-1280 V2 – Ivy Bridge Xeon Review 4C/8T 3.6GHz

Moving up the stack, today we are taking a look at the Intel Xeon E3-1270 V2, which is a new Ivy Bridge Xeon E3 series CPU built on Intel’s new 22nm process. Like last year where most of the original E3-1200 series was reviewed, we will be reviewing the vast majority of Intel’s Xeon E3 V2 lineup. The Xeon E3-1270 V2 holds a small performance advantage over the previously reviewed Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 and Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2. Moving to the next 100MHz step up, the E3-1280 V2, which involves a similar 100MHz clock speed jump, currently costs another $280 over the Intel Xeon E3-1270 V2, or which is getting close to double the cost ($349 v. $629) for a relatively small [...]

Intel Xeon E3-1220 V2 – Ivy Bridge Xeon Review 4C/4T 3.1GHz

Today we are taking a look at the Intel Xeon E3-1220 V2, which is a new Ivy Bridge Xeon E3 series CPU built on Intel’s new 22nm process. Last year, ServeTheHome was the first site to review the Intel Xeon E3-1220 (V1) that was long delayed as there was a delay with the Sandy Bridge Bromolow platform. This year, we are again reviewing the majority of the Intel Xeon E3 lineup, including the Intel Xeon E3-1220 V2. The original Xeon E3-1220 was the fourth most visited review of the E3-1200 V1 series, so it is a popular chip sporting a 4 core / 4 thread design much like Intel’s Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge Core i5 [...]

Intel Xeon E3-1270 V2 – Ivy Bridge Xeon Review 4C/8T 3.5GHz

Moving up the stack, today we are taking a look at the Intel Xeon E3-1270 V2, which is a new Ivy Bridge Xeon E3 series CPU built on Intel’s new 22nm process. Like last year where most of the original E3-1200 series was reviewed, we will be reviewing the vast majority of Intel’s Xeon E3 V2 lineup. The Xeon E3-1270 V2 holds a small performance advantage over the previously reviewed Intel Xeon E3-1230 V2 and Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2. Moving to the next 100MHz step up, the E3-1270 V2, which involves a similar 100MHz clock speed jump, currently costs another $70 over the Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2, or double the premium required for the first 100MHz speed bump. Intel has upgraded this [...]

Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2 – Ivy Bridge Xeon Review 4C/8T 3.4GHz

Today we are taking a look at the Intel Xeon E3-1240 V2, which is a new Ivy Bridge Xeon E3 series CPU built on Intel’s new 22nm process. Like last year where most of the original E3-1200 series was reviewed, we will be reviewing the vast majority of Intel’s Xeon E3 V2 lineup. The Xeon E3-1240 V2 is a very attractive processor from a number of perspectives. One of the most compelling is that it is the fastest sub-$300 CPU with only a $35 current premium over the Xeon E3-1230 V2 that was recently reviewed. Moving to the next step up, the E3-1270 V2, which involves a similar 100MHz clock speed jump, currently costs another $70, or double the premium required for the first [...]
